Outsmart your kid

Monday, March 24th, 2008

There are times that your kid would not want to listen to what your saying or in other words, they are starting to become stubborn. In so many countless ways, they show this. It may be through cleaning and washing their hands, dressing up, keeping their toys or simply watching TV.

If your child does not want to listen to you then try doing the opposite of what you usually do. Do not worry, your child will not think that you are a total boob. In cleaning his toys, you can always put the toys somewhere that is not the usual place where it used to. Like in the bath tub maybe. This way, he will actually do it himself. He will even try to fix you up if you tried to dress in an awkward fashion.

Your child will develop a lot of analytical and logical skills in this process so it is strongly encouraged that you try to make your child figure out what’s wrong and do what is right.

Sibling Rivalry

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Fighting and jealousy kicks in when you have two or more kids at home. Things get a little off hand sometimes which lead to a pretty harmful fight between your siblings.  When their fights get worse, you have to do something about it.

Try giving your kids positive attention. A good one - on - one conversation at least once a day can help reduce a child’s aggressive behavior. Also, teach them how to express their feelings verbally. Help them find the right words to describe how they are feeling. This way, you can avoid abuse or even name calling. Hold them equally responsible. Do not side with either of them. This will just escalate the situation. After all, it takes two to tango. Give them time and space apart and let them fix the situation and apologize to each other.

Solution to MSG

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

MSG or monosodium glutamate is one of the most common food additives available in the market. One clear cut harm that it can cause is that some people or kids for that matter can become very sensitive to it and get symptoms such as nausea, headaches or dissiness. But then if it is in your child’s favorite treat then it may not be the case for him. However, serving too much of this may be dangerous in the long run.

You may choose the option of cutting back on additives that contain a lot of salt. Try adding side dishes like carrots or apples or serve a nice lunch with whole - grain wheat bread. Your child’s nutrition is important and it is every mom’s duty to be wary of the foor that they eat.

Photo Shoot

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Family picture is always a great memory to keep. Parents love to keep memories of their kids as they grow older and as they develop into mature individuals. Often, parents take their kids to photo studios to have their photos taken and the pictures will eventually end up framed or placed on top of the piano and displayed in their common area where visitors could easily find them.

There are times though that toddlers throw their tantrums when they are with a crowd that they do not know and would rarely bring out that picture perfect smile. To bring that smile out, try clowning around in front of him. Turn his whines into giggles by whistling or poking your head with something soft, make faces, or pop your finger out of your mouth. Funny voices will also help out. Do this and your photographer will not have a hard time making your kid smile.

Baby Sitter Activities

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

If you are going out for the night and could not bring your child along, it is always a good option to hire a baby sitter. However, for a first time baby sitter, they could have a hard time adjusting to your child. Help them out by preparing a couple of activities for them to do together while you are out.

Before she arrives, hide several toys around the house and have them hunt down the toys. This will buy you a lot of time going out as well and once they find all of the toys, they can trade places in hiding them and looking for them again. YOu can also make a list of the upcoming birthdays of your relatives. Prepare colorful materials and have them create cards together. Encourage a tea party or play clubhouse.

Baby sitting can be really hard but you can always help your baby sitter out with these fun activities.

Being a responsible shopper

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Shopping is a fun experience even for kids whether your child is a male or a female. It also teaches them a great lesson about separating their wants from what they really need.

Try to line up some crackers, biscuits, towels and even toys. Put a tag beside each of the items and give your child some money and tell him to shop for whatever he needs. DO not tell him to buy whatever he wants.

The more things you put "on sale" the more your child will learn how to weigh things and to appreciate what is really needed. Unknowingly, you will also teach your child how to save some money.

Camping with the kids

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Taking a time off to spend time with your family is a good way to keep the family intact and be in constant communication with them through various activities. First and formeost, choose a great spot to conduct the camping activity. It does not have to be extravagant, it just have to be fun and exciting.

One thing that cannot be missed when camping out is the campfire. The essence of it happens when the whole family gets to share all sorts of stories in front of the fire and thus the bond becomes stronger.

So get out of your usual life and try to bond with your family. Its fun, exciting and worthwhile.

Why Children Cheat

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Examinations, assignments and quizzes are regular parts of schooling. Children will most likely experience these from kindergarten until such time that they graduate from college. Handling exams is one thing that parents should train their kids.

Cheating is major problem that plague students, teachers and parents. If your child gets to love cheating, then they’ll cheat their way to college and every single exam that they encounter. There are numerous factors that need to be addressed.

1. They lack self confidence.
2. They are lazy.
3. The depend on others for their own success.

Address these issues and your child will be more than ready to face the world.

Dangerous Baby Bottles

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Taking note of the nutrients in the baby formula that you are about to feed your child is half the battle. You must include a keen eye on the container - the feeding bottle. It has been reported that BPA or Bisphenol A, a chemical found in plastic containers has been linked with cancer, hyperactivity and impaired immune function.  This is very alarming and you might want to avoid putting your child in this kind of danger.

Here are a few ways to avoid this:
1. Avoid hard polycarbonate plastic that has BPA. Logically, go for the BPA free bottle.
2. Discard cloudy or scratched bottles.
3. Do not heat plastic bottles in the microwave. This will degrade the plastic and release the chemicals inside.

Treasure Hunt!

Friday, March 14th, 2008

It is every parents’ task to teach a child how valuable money is and how to work hard in order to get something that they really want. While it is true that parents need to provide something for their child, training them to become better parents someday must begin while they are still young.

Playing games that involve money is something fun and exciting for a kid. Play treasure hunt and hide coins all over the house and draw a map so that he would think, dig and look for the money himself. This will teach him a valuable lesson that money is something that has be earned and worked hard for. This way, he will realize that he should not waste his money on things that he really do not need. Happy hunting!
