Reverse Psychology: Is it Effective?
Reverse psychology is a technique used by parents often so that they can possibly get their child to do the exact opposite of what they are saying. For example, if a parent would ask a child to get better grades in school, he or she may say, “It’s OK, I think you cannot get better grades anyway.” Now, this has two effects – a positive and a negative one. Positive effect is that the child will do his best to study and get better grades and prove to his parents that he can get high grades if he tried harder. The negative side of it is that the child may no longer try harder because he thinks that he will not improve anyway.
It is such a huge gamble to use this technique because you may never know if the child can improve. The results can be either fascinating or devastating. It is a risk but if you think it will work, then go ahead and give it a try.
